Ewan Proctor is an award winning hospitality and wine industry professional with 18 years of experience across many facets of the food and beverage industry.

Training at some of Sydney’s most iconic dining venuesin the late 1990’s, Ewan was immersedin restaurants that were at the heart of thenewly discovered modern Australiancuisine thatwas to go on and revolutionise Australian dining throughout the 2000’s. With a resumé thatalready includedone ‘Restaurantof the Year’ award(Banc 1999), Ewancompleted hisdegreesin Communications and International Studies at the University of Genova, Liguria. Italy in 2002.

Returning to Australia after some time in California and Oregon in 2007, Ewan took up a position as Head Sommelier for renowned French chef Guillaume Brahimi at his new bistro in the Crown Entertainment complex in Melbourne. The restaurant won “Best New Restaurant”in both local and national reviews such as Gourmet Traveller as well as being a finalist in the“Best New Wine-list” award from Gourmet Traveller Wine.

Ewan then relocated to the Yarra Valley working at longstanding boutique Tarrawarra Estate, before moving to the Maldives to manage the import and distribution of a select portfolio of boutique Australian, New Zealand and European wines. Returning to the Yarra Valley, Ewan was part of a project to re-invigorate ‘The Healesville Hotel’, a legendary foodie temple in the heart of region. Accolades again followed with the restaurant winning the“Best Regional Restaurant”award from Melbourne daily The Age and the “Best Beer List” three years running award from Gourmet Traveller Wine.

Ewan joined Penfolds as Head Sommelier shortly after the re-opening of Magill Estate Restaurant in 2013, and relished the opportunity to team with Australia’s most iconic Wine Brand. Working alongside Gourmet Traveller “Best New Talent” winning chefs, Ewan’s dynamic way of engaging the critics and presenting the range of wines was an integral part of team that placed the Magill Estate Restaurant into the top 10 restaurants in Australia, a first for South Australia and also a first for a winery restaurant. Capping off a year which included the launch of both the 2009 and 2010 Grange and participating in the Penfolds Re-Corking clinics alongside the wine making team, was an appearance in the December 2014 edition of Wine Spectator as part of an 8-page feature article on Penfolds.

In February 2015 Ewan joined the Shanghai office of Treasury Wine Estates as Penfolds Brand Ambassador for Greater China, becoming North Asia Head of Education in April 2016.
